Episode summary

Peter Helliar looked totally groovy in a 70s-style outfit. Stephen Curry was looking flamboyant in a flowered jacket. Cal Wilson said she looked the person her parents were afraid she'd turn into with fishnet stockings and long black dreads. And Josh Lawson looked out of this world in his alien make-up. For the all-group challenge, they took a trip to NASA.

Fun and viewer review

Old favorites Cal Wilson and Josh Lawson return with newcomers Stephen Curry and Peter Hellier. We saw Peter Hellier as the host of an uber 70's TV show and while he did supply some laughs mainly from the physicality of his much too small uniform and famously eager face; his nerves got the better of him and he lacked smoothness.

Stephen Curry was a flamboyant fashion designer who goes on a talk show to promote his new range; he fared a lot better than Peter and dropped many one - liners but at the same time looked quite bored. Special mention to the prop and costumes; they were especially well done in this sketch.

Episode summary

Merrick Watts was looking smooth in a velvet jacket. Kate Langbroek looked peppy; Hamish Blake looked preppy. And Nish looked sharp in a sweater and suit. For the all-in challenge, Kate, Hamish and Merrick looked lovely in their dresses. (That's right... dresses for all three.) And Nish had on a white doctor's coat.

Episode summary

Tony Martin is dressed in black with a mysterious scarf. Eddie Ifft comes out in his national uniform, a full cowboy get-up. Julia Morris gets pushed through the door carrying armloads of shopping. And Shaun Micallef looks like quite a dapper gent.

Fun and viewer review

Tony Martin was the first to walk through the blue door in this instalment, as the director of a new musical, 'Don', on the life and career of Cricket great, Sir Don Bradman. I actually missed the start of it, but from what I saw, he did quite well, considering he admittedly doesn't know anything about sport.

Julia Morris was next through the door, playing a shop-aholic wife to a concerned husband. I guess this was the scene that didn't settle too well with me. There didn't seem to be much conviction in what Julia was saying, and there was almost as if there was little enthusiasm in it. Nevertheless, she did manage to get a laugh or two from me, when she was justifying her purchases on her 18-page credit card statement.

Episode summary

In this week's episode: Akmal Saleh is given a suit and a gun, Rebel Wilson is given a flashy outfit, Dave Hughes shows his patriotism in an Australian tracksuit and Josh Lawson is wearing a jacket that says "Jetplus".

Fun and viewer review

This week; newcomers Dave Hughes and Rebel Wilson suck in their stomach and walk through the blue door as does old hands Akmal Saleh and Josh Lawson.

Akmal plays a detective who is more keen on cracking jokes than investigating on a string of murders and i'm pleased to say this is Akmal at his finest; usually on the show he is a mess of unfunny one - liners and gaffes but in this one he's in great form and opens the show with a bang.

This bang is followed by a fizzle as newcomer Rebel Wilson plays a wife visiting her husband in jail and if there was a law agaisnt making paint drying look funny then it'd be vice versa,

Episode summary

Merrick Watts is the uncivilised Ambassador of Australia meeting the Leader of an Asian country. Fifi Box is the director of a magazine being interrogated by her bosses. Bob Franklin is an officer of the British Airforce who is briefing his doubtful pilots and Nish Selvadurai is an actor who wins an Australian Film industry Award. The group scene features them in a Garden renovation show.

Fun and viewer review

The Weekly Challenges: Merrick, Bob, Nish and Fifi were on a commercial for a posh hotel and were helicopter pilots flying a TV host over Sydney.

As of this episode; Bob Franklin has won the most MVPs with 3 wins.

Merrick Watts and Bob Franklin both tied as the winner; the first draw since season 1, it's also the first draw between two males.

Synopsis

Each contestant is dressed in appropriate costume, has some brief banter with the host, and is then invited to "walk through the blue door" onto a hidden set. They are greeted by the ensemble cast, in character, with the line "Thank God you're here!", and must then attempt to improvise their role in the scene. Typically they will be asked in-character questions by the ensemble cast and challenged to provide information about the scene, including the names of characters or objects.

At least twice during each episode (to cover set-up and costuming for the live audience), footage is shown of each of the four participants performing a challenge, often on location, which was filmed earlier in the week. These include a commentary booth where the contestants have to comment on an unfamiliar subject, an office where they are being interviewed or interrogated (by police, customs officials, etc.), showing customers things for sale (cars, boats, pianos, houses, etc.), or advertisements (e.g. slimming products, housing developments, etc.). The other characters in these scenes are generally played by members of the ensemble cast. The third series also introduced an additional segment in which Gleisner highlights a "real life" Thank God You're Here-style situation, such as the infamous Guy Goma BBC interview and frequently, that of politicians forced to improvise answers under pressure.

Episode summary

In the Third Season final; Angus Sampson is suited in lycra, Hamish Blake is comfortable in a bathrobe, Shaun Micallef and Julia Zemiro are given period costumes and Anh Do is dressed casual.

Fun and viewer review

Finally, when all the contestants have played in a scene by themselves, all four enter a final scene together for the "all-in group challenge". At the end of the show, the judge declares a winner; this choice is entirely at the judge's discretion, and is largely arbitrary. Honorable and dishonorable mentions are also given, usually to contestants who do not win so that the judge can comment on their performances. The winner receives a trophy in the shape of the programme's blue door logo.

There are variations on the standard setup: occasionally the greeting will be slightly changed to better suit the setting (i.e. "Thank the gods you're here!" for a scene featuring Vikings or "Thank God you're alive" in a scene featuring a car accident), and often an alternative entrance will be built into the set. These are often used for comic effect, as in the aforementioned car accident scenario where the contestant (Matthew Newton) climbed through the back of the set and emerged from the door of a wrecked car embedded in the wall of a second-storey flat.
